Looking good is a matter of having strategies and systems in place, some daily and some seasonal, that keep your wardrobe and grooming current, youthful and consistent.
At the beginning of each season I encourage you to go through the following five step seasonal makeover.
1. Evaluate Your Grooming
Consider whether your hair and makeup need updating. This could be a completely new hair style or makeup update or it could be as simple as adding a new hair product, eye shadow or lip liner. Schedule any aesthetic treatments needed such as a facial, pedicure, waxing or electrolysis.
2. Clean Your Closet Using the 30 minute or 3 hour closet cleaning system
Clean out your closet so you know exactly what you have to work with. This is also very therapeudic. The saying, “Declutter your closet – declutter your life” is so true. At the very least, put only the clothes that fit you now to one side of your closet. Take out of your closet or seperate anything that does not fit you today.
3. Prepare For Shopping
Go through each item that fits you now and determine if you have the pieces to make it into a great outfit. If not, make a short and long term list of what is missing
4. Shop For Clothes and Accessories
With your list of missing and needed pieces prioritized, take your main wardrobe items with you and when you shop. Ask yourself, “Is this a ‘10’ and do I love it?” If so, buy it.
5. Document Your Wardrobe
Lay your new outfits, complete with shoes and accessories on the bed and take a picture of them. In the morning, when you are getting dressed and find yourself wearing the same outfits over and over, refer to your photos for new outfit combinations. If you follow this simple system at the beginning of each season, you will love your wardrobe and find it easy and enjoyable getting dressed each morning. You will be able to go to your closet knowing no matter what you choose to wear, everything works together and you have the perfect outfit for every occasion.
